Mom and Dad loved old things, items that tell a story, that hold history. In 1972 they opened an Antique store after moving from Toronto to small town Ontario.
Life doesn't prepare us for immediate and unexpected change. Kaos takes over, truths are no longer, trust is no longer.
When our father passed suddenly Feb 2020 we were mourning our beloved Dad, then a few weeks later - Covid. We switched modes and became the safe keepers of our Mother who was now living alone in our old 2 story family house. My sister and I were determined to keep Mom safe and yet we knew that being locked up would be terrible. So, we took Mom for drives.
We drive on country roads around our hometown, down to Lake Ontario, over to Lake Simcoe, east to Madoc and as far north as Bancroft.
We share small adventures, spotting animals and discovering second hand stores, meeting eccentrics, street prophets, shopkeepers.
Photography allows me to see beauty in things I might pass by. It forces me to engage with the nuances of this interesting world and appreciate her with Family and Strangers.
Heres to the local road trip.
